Natural resources
The Association for the Protection of the Itzá Biosphere has established itself as a benchmark in the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources, promoting initiatives that integrate environmental preservation with the development of our community.

Conservation and sustainability
Since 1994, Bioitzá has managed the Bio-Itzá Indigenous Reserve, a 2,661-hectare territory located within the Buffer Zone of the Maya Biosphere Reserve. This area is crucial for the protection of biodiversity, as it is part of an ecological corridor that includes the El Zotz Biotope and the Tikal National Park.
In addition, in 2024 we obtained the concession of the El Lechugal community territory, with 24,000 hectares, located in the Multiple Use Zone of the Maya Biosphere Reserve.
These concessions are managed under strict sustainability guidelines. We implement low-impact timber resource utilization systems, in compliance with the regulations of the National Council of Protected Areas (CONAP) and international standards. We also carry out forest restoration, control and surveillance activities to protect the integrity of the ecosystems.

We protect what is ours for future generations

Community development
